Krakatoa is a small volcanic island in Indonesia. It erupted last in 1883. It is known as one of the most devastating eruptions in history, as it killed more than 36,000 people. Not only did it generate the loudest sound ever recorded but it cooled the oceans and suppressed sea level rise, it also stripped vegetation bare and demolished homes and structures on the island.
