Multiple skirmishes took place on the San Jacinto river but in the afternoon of April 21st the Mexicans were very tired and then taken by surprise by Sam Houston's sudden and ferocious attack, since they were ambushed so quickly they lost several hundred men while Texas only lost 11 men.
