the German surrender at stalingrad was Hitler's first major defeat of the war. It has been said that Hitler invading Russia was his biggest mistake of the war. The German army was illequipped for the cold russian winter, and therefore were useless for figthing in this time. The surrend occured on Feburary 2nd 1943.
