 The Nine Years War is also known as The Grand Alliance. It was a war between the Holy Roman Empire, Augsburg, The Dutch Republic, France, England Ireland, Spain and Portugal. The war was started to fix the unbalance of power in Europe. It was from 1688-1697. King Louis XIV of France invaded Rhineland in Germany which started the war. It was fought in Europe, India, and North America. There is some dispute among historians about whether or not it should be considered the first world war. Eventually, the French won and they took more of Rhineland. King Williams War was part of the 9 Years War and was fought in North America. There were already tensions in America over the fur trade. Despite England having more troops in America than the French, they still lost a lot of land. The main issue here was that the war was over the fur trade and who would have influence over the Iroquois who controlled that trade.
