This anthem was composed between 1546-49. The text is a brief except from the words Jesus said to his disciples at the Last supper the evening before he was crucified. It combines a clear declamation of the the text with remarkable musical interest and variety. The melodies well fit the words and are simple yet beautiful. Though it was probably composed before Edward VI's decree, it very well adheres to it.
