1970-1977 Ed Asner, an actor who graduated from Wyandotte High School and later Chicago University, starred in one of the most popular television sitcoms in American history, 166 episodes as Lou Grant on the Mary Tyler Moore from 1970-1977. Asner was born in 1929 and first became active in movies in 1957. His first big film role was in 1966 El Dorado with John Wayne. He had roles in many movies, made for TV movies, and has made more appearances in a variety of TV programs than anyone in the history of television. Asner became the 21st President of the Screen Actors Guild. After the Mary Tyler Moore show he carried forward the theme with the popular Lou Grant Show from 1977-1982. Asner is still active in television and movies at the age of 91. Asner’s nominations and awards for acting are too numerous to mention.
