Identity is a very big theme throughout the first four periods of the APUSH curriculum. since settlers from Europe were brought over to the Americas, they have always wanted to break away from the oppression and tyranny of Great Britain and make a name for themselves. The same with slaves. Slaves were tired of being oppressed by whites and wanted to have an identity for themselves, so they rebelled until slavery was finally abolished.
