In 1877 on the 21st November the Phonograph was invented by Thomas Edison, the Phonograph is a slightly updated version of the Phonautohraph. Edison used tin foil as the cylinder and was able to then play back what was recorded. The Phonograph is monophonic which means it could only record things all together and played back all together.
