(1618-1648): Originally a religious war that spread to political reasons over time, 4 periods consist of the Bohemian period, Danish period, Swedish period, and Swedish-Danish period, fought between the Roman Catholics and Protestants of Germany eventually fighting for balance of power in Europe. It effected Europe forever by the Treaty of Westphalia, which granted rights to Calvinists, Lutherans, and Catholics in the Holy Roman Empire depending on who owned the land you lived on.
