Born in Pelago, Italy in 1378 and died December 1, 1455 in Florence Italy. He was an Italian renaissance sculptor who was known for his work on the doors for the Baptistery of the cathedral of Florence as well as the stained glass windows in the church. Other pieces of his that are quite famous are his bronze works for Orsanmichele. He married and had two children, one of them who continued Ghiberti's operation after his father's death.
