Gideon was arrested for breaking and entering as well as petty larceny. Gideon was denied a lawyer based on the Betts v. Brady decision. Gideon appeals to the Supreme Court stating it violated his 14th amendment, and the Supreme Court ruled in his favor, repealing Betts v. Brady
