With the marriage of these monarchs, Castile and Aragon were united. This unified the entirety of Spain under non-Islamic rule for the first time since the fall of the Visigothic Kingdom over 700 years before. These monarchs would go on to guide Spain through many achievements, such as the restoration of Granada to Christianity and funding Colombus' voyage which lead to the European settlement of the Americas.
