The keys of Priesthood authority were restored to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery in the Kirtland temple after its dedication a week before. Peter, James and John restored the keys of priesthood authority (offices). John the Baptist restored the authority to baptize. Elijah restored the authority to join families together forever. This experience is very sacred and was a huge steeping stone in making what the LDS church is today.
