In 1962, all Indigenous Australians got to vote. Before 1962, Indigenous Australians were not treated equally and they didn't get any rights. They were discriminated and many people were being racist towards them. In 1949, Indigenous Australians got to vote but only if they served in the war. This was very unfair because everyone else got to vote but the Indigenous Australians didn't get their say. Voting is all about having your say and that is what the Indigenous Australians didn't get. When all Indigenous Australians got to vote in 1962, they were finally treated equally. They got their say in voting and they weren't discriminating.

This was important because Indigenous Australians were finally treated equally and fairly. Many people back then were very judgemental and they were racist towards people who were different genders, colours and races. Indigenous Australians were called animals before and now they were equal.
