Before 1901 Australia was divided into six different colonies. They each had their own parliament, laws, and small defence force, and stamps. Even transport was different and people would have to pay to cross the country.
Due to this, people started to want to federate so it would be easier for defence, trade, immigration and foreign policy.

The Tenterfield Oration and The Eureka Stockade were also two important supporting ideas that helped people want to federate,

Australia held a vote for the Constitution which was a set of rules that they had to follow. Later on the British Parliment approved of the Australian Federation and it was the birth of a New Nation. This shaped Australia becasue everyone united together and did their fist vote.
