During the time of the Californian gold-rush people were hungry for gold. Australia joined in the game when Edward Hargraves claimed to have discovered a fleck of gold at The Lewis Ponds Creek. This news attracted many people to come from all over the world and mine and pan at Ballarat. This impacted Australia because thousands of people from all over the world came. Australia got lots of recognition and its population boosted. The economy also grew and so did Australia's Identity.
