In 1905 The University of Kansas School of Medicine opened in the basement of the downtown Simpson Building on the corner of Simpson and Central Avenues. The institution was a combination of the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Kansas City, Kansas, the Kansas City Medical College, and the Medico-Chirurgical College in Kansas City, Missouri.
