1 янв 1876 г. - The Indian Act
Описание:
The Indian Act was a combination of laws on the topic of First Nations in Canada after Confederation. They were rules and regulations for the First Nations of Canada, and the goal of them was to eventually try and assimilate the First Nations into the Canadian culture. This exerpt from the Indian Act specifies how little control the First Nations had over their own property and themselves, and who was classified as an "Indian". “2. The Minister of the Interior shall be ... in the control and management of the reserves, lands, moneys and property of Indians in Canada ... 3. The term “Indian” means First. Any male person of Indian blood reputed to belong to a particular band; Secondly. Any child of such person; Thirdly. Any woman who is or was lawfully married to such person: 12. The term “person” means an individual other than an Indian.”
