“In 1906, at the end of May and at the start of June-- it happened in Cananea.

The bosses there were gringos, the foremen were gringos too, and the other gringo thieves hung round like birds of prey.

Worker demands were just: fair treatment, minimum wage, the right to an 8-hour day, and promotion with benefits.

And the government and bosses were so very much afraid that they sent across the border for soldiers from Arizona.

There were piles of dead and wounded thus cynically shot down when the Capitalists’ guns were used upon our brothers.

And thus returned their Peace, their Order and their Progress, at the cost of blood and widows, of orphans and prisoners!” (pg53)
