-Soviet-style communism was forced on the Hungarians
-Soviet troops were stationed in Hungary and Soviet officials were in the government and the Hungarians had to pay for them
-Parts of Hungary had Russian names and Russian was incorporated into schools and shops.

FREEDOM:
-Freedom of speech and expression was taken away
-The secret police were used to arrest any political opposition

ECONOMICS:
-Low wages and poor living standards
