15 дек 1814 г. - Hartford Convention
Описание:
An event which took place just before the war ended, which involved the New England states threatening to secede from the Union. Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and Vermont sent representatives to meet in secret to discuss their grievances at a convention held in Hartford, Connecticut. As the New England states were opposed of both the war and the Democratic-Republican government in Washington. They adopted a number of proposals, most importantly the call for two-thirds vote of both houses for any future declarations of war. Also, they proposed some Amendments to the Constitution and advocated the right of states to nullify federal laws and if their desires were ignored the threaten of seceding from the Union became part of their conditions. Shortly after the convention dissolved, the events of Jackson's victory at New Orleans and the Treaty of Ghent led to the end of criticisms of the war. Significantly, the Federalist Party met its demise as they were considered unpatriotic by the radical ideas urging for secession from the Union.
