The theory was used to justify slavery and strengthened white supremacy, for no matter how poor a white was, they would be relieved for they were not black slaves and there belonged to a higher race.
2) Abraham Lincoln argued forcefully against this theory. It was a main devision between the North's and the South's ideology.
