Revolutionaries in Iran stormed the American embassy in Tehran and took 53 Americans hostage.Marines were decimated by the sheer number attacking and could not protect everyone. This was all world broadcasted via tv so the world saw Marines fail at defense as well as effigies of carter being burned, and the burning of American flags.
