The amount of olive oil that was exported from 1930-1932 was decreased by 58%, leading to the cutting of wages for workers. workers would make 5.86 pestas when 7.32 was needed to even be able to just survive. Due to these outrageously low wages, workers began to retaliate and advocate for less unemployment or for the government to give them more land. Things got more violent over time and then peasants began to die from the actions taken by government forces.
