(Spain) It started around the time that Napoleon overthrew King Ferdinand VII and Spain was thrown into a civil war. Because of this, Argentina and the other colonies owned by Spain in the Americas were allowed to govern themselves until the king was reinstated. When Ferdinand was reinstated he had virtually no power. After discussing what to do, they declared independence.
