- Prior to transistors, computers were large, cumbersone, and prone to failure. Previous computers, like ENIAC, used thousands of vacuum cubes, which also meant thousands of chances to fail. Vacuum tubes would have never led to modern computers, and this is where transistors come into play.

- Transistors were 1/50 the size and 100 times lighter than vacuum cubes. Not only that, they used less power. This was what would allow the computer size we see today in laptops and PC's.

- Finally, transistors allowed manufacturers to just print transistors on to the computer instead of having to deal with wires. This meant less bulk, since there was no wires, and less chance of error, since connections were no longer dependant on wires.
