The transistor if successfully demonstrated at Bell Laboratories in New Jersey.
REASONS WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT:
1) The transistor was much smaller than vacuum tubes, while also functioning longer due to losing so little energy to heat
2) The transistor is the invention that made computers what they are now, allowing for much more calculating power with less space
3) Transistors paved they way for microprocessors, which were a massive contributing factor leading to computers becoming both more advanced and available to the public.
