Official colonisation of Mars begins with the foundation of Ares-1, the Martian colony that would in time grow to become the first human nation fully separated from the rule of earth; Tharsis, which comprised territories ranging from the Martian equator to the ice caps of the northern pole. Mercury and Venus were also settled with vast aero-static plates that sat in perpetual orbit above the dark sides of those worlds, held upon vast cushions of electromagnetic charge.
