In 1985, Nintendo released the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), which had superior 8-bit graphics, colors, sound, and gameplay as opposed to nearly all other consoles. This system birthed many long-lasting franchises, including Metroid, The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros., Pokemon, Mega Man, Castlevania, Final Fantasy, and Dragon Quest.
