In 1848, Karl Marx and Frederick Engels published The Communist Manifesto. In Animal Farm, Old Major is an old boar on the farm who is meant to represent Karl Marx.
"'Is it not crystal clear, then, comrades, that all the evils of this life of ours spring from the tyranny of human beings?" (Orwell 5).
Both Karl Marx and Old Major want the lower class to rise up against the upper class and enact a form of communism.
