After inheriting land from Mary's mother, the family returned to the town in which Scott was born. It was here that Scott attended the Catholic school of St. Paul Academy. Young Scott’s first publication The Mystery of the Raymond Mortgage was a detective story issued in the school’s newspaper at the age of 13 while attending.
