Arthur Holmes discovered the Mantle Convection currents in 1929 but was not taken seriously until the 1960s. Some evidence proving this statement include, The Mantle undergoes thermal convection. The convection currents resulted in the continents spreading/ being pushed away from each other. It even caused seafloor spreading to occur.
