The British physicist produced unknown radiation after attacking beryllium atoms with alpha particles. This radiation was made up of particles with a neutral charge, as well as the exact mass of a proton. This particle is known as the neutron. Chadwick was awarded a Nobel Prize in physics for his discoveries.
