Instead of using the traditional way of composing music, he began using it to express emotion to impact his audiences, thus filling the gap between the Classical and Romantic Eras.He wrote one of his most famous pieces, "Piano Sonata no. 14 (Moonlight Sonata)," when he lost his hearing.
