On Monday I drank mango juice. Mango juice in Canada, would not be possible without globalization, given that mangoes are not native to Canada, and thus mango juice would have to be imported to Canada from a country in which mangoes can grow. This concept reinforces the idea of a global market without borders. This event primarily relates to the cultural and societal factor of globalization as it is an example of an import that gave me (a consumer) more choice in the market of beverages. However, the product being imported from India did push me to consider more complex consumer information before making a purchase. India is widely known for enforcing unfair labour conditions upon workers, this background knowledge of harsh labour practices made me consider whether or not that was something I was willing to support through my purchase. However, after seeing the fair trade logo on the bottle, I chose to purchase. Fair trade products are products part of a movement that aims to help producers in developing countries obtain better training conditions and promote sustainability.
