Alexander Graham Bell, scientist, inventor and innovator, received the first patent for an “apparatus for transmitting vocal or other sounds telegraphically,” a device he called the telephone. A system for transmitting voices over a distance using wire or radio, by converting acoustic vibrations to electrical signals.
