Aiming to cut Britain off from trade with Europe, Napoleon plotted an attack on Britain with a Mediterranean fleet, but it was defeated by Lord Nelson at this battle, this eradicating his plan to invade England. These actions disgruntled the rulers of Austria and Russia, notably Alexander I of Russia, his opposing of Napoleon's actions against Britain prompting Napoleon to invade Russia, which would lead to devastation in the Battle of Borodino.
