After the siege, the Crusaders met Prince Alexios IV. His father Isaac II was dethroned by Alexios's Uncle: Alexios III. Prince Alexios wanted help reclaiming his empire. He promised the Crusaders 200 thousand marks (a nearly impossible payment) if they would help him. They agreed because they needed to pay off the Doge somehow.

Alexios IV promised:
1. Orthodox Churches obedience to Rome
2. 100,000 soldiers and 500 permanent Knights in the Holy Land
3. 200,000 silver marks

This is an example of how the Crusaders' debt drives EVERY decision they make
