After serving Portugal for approximately 10 years, only to be rejected and accused of treachery, Ferdinand Magellan renounced his nationality and moved to Spain. This led to arguably one of the most famous explorations ever; Spain accepted his request to sail around the world to prove its roundness, and Magellan became the first person to circumnavigate the globe.
