Hemopump, a temporary left ventricular assist blood pump, is put to clinical use. It is designed to allow for the temporary support of a failing heart. The first successful long-term implantation of an artificial left ventricular assist device (LVAD) is performed by Dr. William F. Bernhard. emergency treatment of heart attack with aspirin and clot busting drugs were found to save lives.
