The Pazzi Conspiracy was Pope Sixtus IV's plot to kill the Medici brothers Lorenzo and Guiliano in the Duomo. Pope Sixtus IV was a sworn enemy of the Medici and commissioned the Sistine Chapel to spite the Medici's accomplishments. The plot was only half-successful, with Guiliano being killed and Lorenzo surviving. Lorenzo went on to kill the conspirators and launch an intense spree of art patronage, particularly with paintings
