Colonization started in the late 1500s and had a massive effect on the many Indigenous people the British and French had encountered. Disease was spread from the Europeans, and the Indigenous of Canada were soon taken advantage of. They were dubbed savages and were treated as if they were lesser beings. Their way of life was soon taken away from them in many forms 'gentrification'. This historical event completely invalidates the myth of Canada's good relationship with the Indigenous.
