Interest in studying abroad waned after World War II and continued to decline as the Cold War intensified. The Council on Student Travel (now the Council on International Educational Exchange), which was formed in 1947, exceptionally countered negative attitudes toward studying abroad, sponsoring global education conferences as well as facilitating international exchange for a number of nonprofits.
