Signed in 1965, removed all trade tariffs on automobile and auto parts trade between the United States and Canada, this boosted blue collar employment in Southern Ontario greatly. It was later determined by the World Trade organization , in 2001 that it was in violation of their rules and was declared illegal. However, by the time the Pact was cancelled the automotive industry was already heavily integrated into the Canadian economy, and continued to prosper.
