Siddhartha raises his son basically on his own, with some help from the ferryman, and his love is unconditionally for him and tries to protect him at all costs. However, his son hates his life, is spoiled rotten, and feels disgusted towards Siddhartha and the ferryman. As a result, his sons runs away with Siddhartha following close behind. While trying to find him, Siddhartha goes through the forest where he first met Kamala and immediately feels her with him and leaves him feeling depressed once more after reminisicning their memories. Siddhartha then feels hopeless again as he sits down and meditates. The ferryman finds him as they then begin to collectively listen to the river speak to them as it echoes: Om. Siddhartha begins to feel accomplished and feels he is close to achieving enlightenment. The ferryman claims he has been waiting for this moment and leaves him there to figure out the rest on his own.

Character relationships: In this section, it shows how Siddhartha and the ferryman both have such a close the relationship that they both can disturb each other while meditating and influence each other's decisions. The ferryman basically takes Siddhartha under his wing and guides him through his decision making and how he lives life. At the conclusion of this section, the author hints towards Siddhartha being close to achieving enlightenment as the ferryman lets him go free as he is ready to face challanges on his own.

Themes, symbols, and motifs: In this portion of the book and throughout the book, I believe that the river represents life and it's inevitable flow of events. It is ironic how Siddhartha and other s settle and meditate by the bank on the river, almost like they use the river to help guide them throughout life and use it to evaluate their decisions.
