Carpenters in Philadelphia conduct the first strike in building trades in U.S. history. This led to the first local union conducting collective bargaining with their employer. The union consisted of only the craftsmen and had the main objective of getting a 10 hour work day. (Effect: first union (of sorts) created in America)
