(CORE was set up by James Farmer to protest against the De Facto
segregation in northern cities. It was revived in 1961, however, it split in 1966
over support for the Black Power Movement and James Farmer resigned in
disgust at the violent tendencies of some members. After 1968 though, when
Roy Innes took over, it moved back to a more moderate position.)
