After the 4 months of training in Egypt, the Australians knew better what to expect in war but still were oblivious to the destruction and grief of war. When they first arrived at the shore, the darkness of the night confused our soldiers, causing them to mix up their assault formations, but eventually, they made their inland. This is where everything went wrong. A battle broke out between our soldiers and the Turkish, and our soldiers were given mixed commands - some advanced to their designated objectives while others scattered to other areas to dig trenches to prepare for a trench war. By nightfall, the ANZACS had formed a beachhead, turning the battle into a stalemate until either side receives backup forces. Two thousand ANZAC troops were killed on that day, and similar numbers for the Turkish.
