not enough ARVN troops, faced lots of resistance, forced to withdraw. Highlighted weakness of the ARVN. Thieu was a bit of an idiot and said when there were 3000 causalities they should stop their advance and so halfway through they just gave in.

Without US air support the ARVN was doomed to fail winning the war.
