The new constitution of Hungary was established - a near carbon copy of the Soviet Union's. In the consolidation of communist power in Hungary (having used salami tactics to eliminate opposition), Rakosi heads the new Stalinist regime.
However, many disliked the influence of the USSR - stationing troops and ignoring their proud history as well as the imprisonment of Cardinal Mindszenty (popular religious leader).
